2 Taxi Drivers talk about Post-Katrina New Orleans

Taxi Driver Accounts from 2.07.2007

When asked about Hurricane Katrina in general and the recovery efforts specifically, the following were their responses:

An American originally from Pakistan

  • -He said that before Katrina, the French Quarter would have been packed with people on night like tonight and we would not have driven through it so easily.
  • -Usually this way from the Sugar Bowl straight through Jazz Fest.
  • -You can get into all of the popular places now very easily. Before Katrina, only if you were lucky.
  • -Downtown business areas are recovering much faster than the rest of New Orleans.

Another driver

  • -He was living in an apartment but is now in a FEMA trailer.
  • -All agencies have been helpful, though progress is slow.
  • -Government assistance has been slow.
