I got to tag along with a team from ACORN leading a group of college students from Princeton. It was a wet day. Not the kind of day that you’d like to don a tyvek suit, a respirator, and latex gloves underneath heavy duty leather gloves at 8 am, but everyone showed up and the demolition got into full swing with a steady stream of tyvek-clad, respirator-wearing volunteers ferrying loads of drywall, insulation and whatever from the house to the curb. Imagine this whole house, no this whole neighborhood submerged in 7-9 feet of water! It and thousands of others have been sitting like this since the flood waters dissipated late in 2005. That’s why we are here and that’s why we need you here!
