Volunteer Letter: Amelia

Hello…

I don’t know who will receive this email, but it doesn’t matter. It
goes to everyone at Katrina Corps. This is Amy (Amelia) which ever. I
just got home yesterday and I’m all ready to come back. You guys were
so great this past week. You’re doing a really wonderful thing and I
think you guys should give yourselves a pat on the back.

This past week really had an effect on me. Working all day picking up
trash and gutting houses is one thing. But being in New Orleans and
experiencing the great people and spirit of the city is really what
changed me. I feel for those who lost their homes and lives in this
city, and I know that they most surely want to come back. I was only
there for a week and I already want to come back! (Which I’m going to
really try to do).

I just wanted to say hello to some specifics. Pam, I think you are a
very strong lady for directing this program. Working and trying to
make a difference is extremely difficut. But the difference this
program (as well as others) is making is huge. You should really be
proud of what you guys have put together so far, in such a short
amount of time!

David, cool guy from the get go. I’m glad we got to work together
becuase I could tell that you were pretty chill from the beginning.
When we showed up with 30 people and you had to register everyone, it
was no big. Post some more pics on the blog! It seems that you are the
computer savvy one :)

I’m sure Terry doesn’t check his email so would someone tell him for
me that I thought he was a really great guy. He kept my spirits up and
was always telling me to get some water. But, just his presence and
smiles helped me along. I’ll miss ya Terry. You had a great sense of
humor and a good heart.

To Iver, tell him that he is, was, and will always be awesome. Me and
Shelby really enjoyed getting to know him and hearing about what he
has done. I know that him and Terry are probably gettin pretty tired
since yall have been working non stop. I just think thats awesome that
you guys stay so strong. You really helped me stay in good spirits and
helped me to remember that I have a lot to be thankful for. And that I
want to travel!

I really will miss everyone that I met this week. You can tell that
all the people working for Katrina Corps really belong in New Orleans.
Ray and Marte and Eric, all you were so much fun to play with! I
really want to skip my classes and come back there just to hang with
all you guys! And work of course. What I’m trying to get at is that
the people are what makes NO a place to be. And we have to get them
back to their homes.

I really hope to see you all again. Please, send me contact info for
everyone somehow. Or tell me how I can recieve it because I really
want to be able to stay in touch with the people I met. Also, if
anyone has pictures, I would love to see them. I didn’t bring my
camera (because I don’t have one) so I don’t have any pictures.

You guys really made an impact on me. Thanks for being so selfless and
caring so much for other people. It really rubbed off on me.

I’m going to try really hard to work something out with my teachers
and skip some school, but I don’t know how well that will work out.
(the school year is almost over) But Pam, if I can’t make it down for
the last week, what are you going to be doing in terms of summer? Let
me know please cause if I’m going to do some volunteer work in NO its
going to be with Katrina Corps!

I’m gonna really miss you guys…

Amelia

Ps- I’m coming down for my 21st bday in November. Tell all the buddies
there that we should chill!
