I went to New Orleans as a volunteer to celebrate my 66th birthday. The past couple of years had been very difficult and I wanted to do something that might give me a different perspective on my life. Volunteering changed my life! This year to celebrate I plan to return for two weeks and am starting a recruitment volunteer effort to get others to go. I am in the process of approaching churches, organizations, businesses and students to recruit and sponsor volunteers to go down and lend a hand. To help cover expenses for the volunteers I'm working with them to raise money by holding bake sales, car washes, yard sales, etc. I plan to do this for the next 12 months because I know now that volunteering is the gift that keeps on giving!

I'm working on creating a blog to encourage others throughout the country to start similar recruitment efforts in their home town so any suggestions/ you might offer would be greatly appreciated. I live on a very limited budget and anything I do is out of pocket so I'm looking for ways that are not expensive...free would be the best.
