I just spoke with Diana, a patron here at Cafe Rose Nicaud. She saw our poster and inquired about Katrina Corps. We chatted for a bit and she told me that she’d love to host volunteers, but that she had just finished gutting her own house (with the help of friends and family-some as far away as California!) but was still living in a trailer in the front yard as she hadn’t yet rebuilt. She offered her trailer if she got her house finished before Spring Break and took a number of our flyers to pass out around town.
Upon leaving she said “You know…volunteers…that’s the only way rebuilding is going to happen. The rest is just smoke and mirrors.”
